Sapphire is one of the most popular and prized gems on earth. It has been valued by cultures throughout history. Sapphire is the rich, velvety blue form of the mineral corundum, of which ruby is a member as well. It has a hardness of 9, making it the hardest colored stone, second only to diamond. It is very well suited to jewelry or collection.
This particular stone is lab created. One important thing to realize about lab created sapphire is that it isn't just a blue stone made to imitate sapphire--physically and chemically this *is* a sapphire; it was simply formed in made made conditions in a lab, rather than dug from the earth. Stones like this give everyone the opportunity to own a stone whose size and quality would otherwise be limited only to kings, or in our modern days, princes and princesses, heh.
This stone weighs in at 3.2ct and measures 8.6 x 7.3 x 5.9mm. It is a bright and sparkly ceylon blue and is cut in a classic antique cushion design. It's a really lovely stone, especially for those that love blue sapphires but want them to be lighter and brighter!
