Tourmaline is the jolly-rancher rockstar of the gemstone world. It is prized all over the world for its rich, vibrant hues of pink, green, blue, and even orange and purple on occasion. It is found nearly worldwide, but the biggest producers are Brazil, Africa and Afghanistan/Pakistan. It has a hardness of 7 and is suitable for use in jewelry, though care should be taken as it can scratch easily.
This stone is a lovely dark olive green Dravite tourmaline. Dravite is strongly dichroic, meaning it displays a dark brownish olive through one axis and a vibrant emerald green through another. In this stone you get a great mix of color flash, from a deep vermillion to an almost reddish orange. The stone is eyeclean, weighs 3.1ct and measures 13.5 x 7 x 5.5mm. The cut is titled "Elser's Challenge 2" and was designed by Arya Akhavan, cut by me.
