Smoky Quartz is the naturally occurring smoky brown form of the mineral quartz. When cut properly it makes a really intriguing stone and this one is breathtaking! Quartz has a hardness of 7.5 and is suitable for jewelry or collection.
I cut these stones probably 3 years ago, and have made SEVERAL attempts to photograph them, all unsuccessfully until now, heh. These two beauties are a great matched pair that would be fabulous for a pair of earrings, or perhaps even make a handsome set of cufflinks. The stones measure 11.2 x 11.2 x 7.5mm and weigh 8.61ct total weight. They are eye clean with no cracks, veils or inclusions, just deep warm brown color. I suspect that this material has been treated to enhance color, but this is par for the course for most quartz and is stable for the course of normal wear.
